After a lot of effort trying to figure out exactly how to make this happen, I’m very excited to have some cool Ts to go along with the e-book. They feature our awesome new logo, which is simple and direct, while sending a clear message that we’re ready to go! Graphic designer Keith Trego did an amazing job of taking something that started as a sketch on my notepad and turning it into a design that I think will motivate you and me every time we put the T-shirts on. We even have an alternative “playful” design.

A while back a buddy of mine asked me if Reach Past Your Limits was for disabled people. I think it’s a natural assumption for many people to make upon hearing about the work of someone with a disability.

I call this our
“playful” design.

Reach Past Your Limits is for YOU! Whatever your ability level, as one reader of the e-book put it, we can all use some motivation to get past the obstacles we face to achieve our goals—able-bodied, disabled, in the prime of life, aging well, or whatever stage you’re in.

The e-book is designed as a short, easy read to get you going. Now, you can pull on the shirt and get that same sense of motivation!

I said early on in the process of creating the T-shirts that they had to make people want to get out and go. Get moving—whatever that means for you. I think we nailed it!

I sat in the dean’s office. I can hear the two kids who had been pulled out of their classes just outside the door talking to each other before the dean gets back from whatever he was doing. They’re asking each other, “Do you know why we’re here?” “I have no idea, do you?” Life was pretty good as a senior, with an exception or two. This group shot of seniors is from the yearbook. My speech disability was always an easy target for other kids. Senior year, these two kids mumbled every time I opened my mouth in English class. I knew these guys. Hell, I was friendly with one of them, and knew the other one well enough to say “What’s up?” to. I was visibly upset one day after class and the resource room staff found out what was going on. I was absolutely ready to fight these kids. I end up in the dean’s office. My English teacher happened to be in the outer office and joined the meeting after the dean returned. Bullies in the Mainstream (Part II)

(READ PART I ) The jump from eighth grade to high school was more difficult than going from “special” school to eighth grade. Some teachers were intent on letting students know that we were “in high school now” and wouldn’t be coddled, which I’m sure is fairly standard. But at times that message seemed to spillover to include an open dislike for having to teach disabled students. An inaccessible building frequently required classes to be moved so that students with disabilities could actually get to class, which didn’t thrill some teachers. It meant they had to move to a different room for a period or two during the day. Mostly, though, that was just an excuse for their attitude. My senior picture from the yearbook. Fall 2023 in Pictures

One tree started this post. Its leaves were just starting to turn. Flames of red amongst the green. I took a picture of it.  (I always did like redheads.)  And I decided to take some more pictures on my walks and around the house. I’m by no means a “photog,” but I really got into it. I started thinking of it as “fall from my perspective.” A few years ago, I published a post called  “A Picture (or Five) of Summer. ” This post,  however, feels like my first effort at a true pictorial post.  I’m excited to try it.  I hope you enjoy!
